HotelView to Provide Videos on
Pegasus Systems' TravelWeb Internet Site
POMPANO BEACH, Fla.
(September 10, 1998) - HotelView Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Visual Data
Corporation (Nasdaq: VDAT) and Pegasus Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: PEGS), have agreed to incorporate
HotelView video tours into TravelWeb®, one of the world's largest Internet reservation
services. As a result, TravelWeb® users will now have the option to see full-motion videos with
narrated descriptions of select hotels.
HotelView Corp. produces and hosts high-quality hotel videos on the Internet. The video tours,
or vignettes, can be seen at the hotel's own web site, at TravelWeb® (www.travelweb.com) and through HotelView's large
network of hyperlinks to other travel sites.
To view a video on TravelWeb®, users click on the "Hotel Info" button for a chosen
hotel and then can select HotelView from the tool bar, which indicates that the hotel offers video
tours. All the user needs to access HotelView® is a Web browser and the free Real Player®,
which is included with many browsers.
For speed and video clarity, a T-1 line or ISDN is preferred but not necessary. Modem speeds of 28.8 bps and above are highly recommended.
Hotels already including HotelView® video tours on TravelWeb® include The Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel, San Francisco Hilton & Towers, and Marriott's Camelback Inn Resort, Golf & Spa in Arizona.
Research by TravelNow, a top-tier independent travel agency, has found the HotelView® video advertising produces more than eight times the number of bookings than a regular static hotel site. Yahoo! Internet Life, a division of Yahoo! Corporation (Nasdaq: YHOO) magazine recently awarded four stars to HotelView® for providing the "Best Hotel-Room Previews."
"This relationship with Pegasus grants HotelView access to one of the largest online hotel directories in the world, while providing both TravelWeb® and HotelView® hotel customers with an effective means to increase bookings," said David Chestler, HotelView General Manager. "By placing our videos on TravelWeb®, our hotel clients get enhanced advertising exposure, while TravelWeb® visitors enjoy the added content of our video presentations."
"Online videos are perfect for the hotel product. Travelers don't care what the inside of an airplane looks like, but they do want to see visuals of the hotel before they make a booking," said John F. Davis III, president and chief executive officer, Pegasus Systems, Inc. "For four years, we've provided hotel photos on TravelWeb, and now we're moving to the next level - streaming video. We have named HotelView a preferred provider of video production services and hope that our 22,000 hotel customers will tap their services so that TravelWeb can offer online travelers this value-added informational content."
TravelWeb®, owned and operated by Pegusus Systems, is a full-service travel site offering online reservations on more than 300 airlines and approximately 22,000 hotels. TravelWeb® is one of the Web's six "mega sites" that account for 75 percent of all travel-related sales, according to the Travel Industry Association. As a result of its direct connections to hotels via Pegasus Systems' THISCO technology, TravelWeb® provides consumers with the ability to shop and query hotel room availability and securely make a reservation and receive a confirmation in seconds. During the first half of 1998, consumers booked approximately $20 million worth of hotel rooms through TravelWeb®.
